Dr. Grace Bonanno

Hi, I’m Dr. Grace Bonanno and I’m looking forward to sharing with you the skills needed to help prepare you for a career in information technology (IT).
A little bit about myself, I always loved doing puzzles, jig saw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and word jumbles. Even today, I could sit for hours and finish a 1000-piece jig saw puzzle and love every moment doing it. Many areas of IT, such as network administration, require the same skills, the same concentration, and the same logical or critical thinking, which is probably why I pursued a career in the IT field.
My experience in IT started with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.  After working for IBM for several years as a junior programmer, I continued my education with a master’s degree in Educational Computing.  While studying, I took a job as a network lab support person for a high school. It was there I found an interest in network technologies and my love for teaching technology. Once graduating with my master’s degree, I applied for a teaching position at The Westchester Business Institute now called The College of Westchester. Teaching technology classes at a higher education institution facilitated my decision to complete my education with a Doctorate in Computer Information Systems, as well as pursue industry certifications, such as CompTIA Network+ and Security+.
Being a life-long learner, especially in the ever-changing IT field, is an essential attribute for success. It's my goal to share with my students the knowledge and skills necessary to become an IT expert and hopefully they will take hold of my respect and love for technology, apply their knowledge and skills, and succeed with a career in Information Technology.
